On October 20, 2009, the AARC was recognized by the local police for their long service to the community with a plaque. It had been over 25 years that radio operators in and around the Amherstburg area had assisted the local police
with voluntary patrols on Hallowe'en night and the night before. Indeed, these voluntary patrols have been going on longer than the AARC has been in existence. A previous club, known as the Amherstburg CB Club, used to help with
these patrols. But no matter whether there was a club or not, radio operators in and around Amherstburg lent a helping hand those two nights consistently for over 25 years.
Earlier in 2009, Amherstburg Police officials attended a meeting with other police officials across Ontario to discuss issues related to policing. One of the many topics discussed that day was incident statistics for Hallowe'en and
the so-called "Devil's Night." Amherstburg was not the only community with volunteers helping out on those two nights. What surprised Amherstburg Police officials, however, was the surprising stat that
Amherstburg had the lowest incident rate of any town in Ontario on those two nights.
That fact drove home the difference radio volunteers in Amherstburg had made, and the Amherstburg Police Services decided it was long overdue to recognize our help. The invitation to the banquet on October 20, 2009,
was attended by:
President Dan Fox VA3DYF
Secretary - Treasurer Anne Fox VA3ADF
Vice-President David Beckett VE3HKO
HF Chairman Carlo Salvitti VA3CSS
